I just got this email.........................

Making sense of sustainability just got easier...

Most people realise the importance and benefits of being sustainable – it is inherently healthy, thrifty and good for the future. Whilst there is plenty of information about sustainability, making sense of it all is a different matter entirely. That’s where Econation comes in.

Comprehensive, independent and constructive

Econation exists to help New Zealander's learn about sustainable practices by providing information, education and training.

Sustainability is a universal approach. That is why we provide comprehensive information. Our website econation.co.nz has just been launched with over 160 pages of useful information and will continue to grow and improve. We provide information for individuals, families, businesses, community groups and organisations. We are currently developing and piloting education resources for schools which will be widely available in 2009.

We are independent. Although we encourage the use of sustainable products and solutions we are not biased towards, and do not endorse, particular brands. Our intention is to provide fundamental information so that you can make informed decisions about which product or practice to use.

Our approach is to be constructive and useful by focusing on practical solutions.

Balancing act

Sustainability is about the balance between taking enough to satisfy current needs and leaving enough to meet future needs. It is the fundamental condition of anything that lasts. If we want to sustain the ecosystems that provide what we need to survive – air, water, food, shelter, internet etc – we must act sustainably. Sustainability is looking after the future now.

So what do you do?

First you need to find out about sustainable solutions – practices, technologies and services – and Econation is the ideal place to start. I encourage you to visit our website and have a good look around. Please bookmark it and come back, it will be updated and improved constantly.

Secondly you need to choose and prioritise the best options for you AND for the future – thinking about timeframes, budgets and who will do what.

Third, just do it!

Sharing

Please tell people you know about Econation. Sharing, generally, is a basic factor in being sustainable. Sharing information, in particular, is how we can help others become sustainable. There are many, many people who are struggling to understand and mitigate the issues facing the world and perhaps our website can help them a little.

Kind Regards
Michael Lockhart
